You will visit three of Kyoto's most fascinating institutions; Nijo Castle is an Edo period castle(17th century). Kinkakuji Temple has the most beautiful buildings and gardens of the Muromachi period(14th century ). Ryoanji Temple is a Zen Buddhist garden that incorporates Western techniques. All are representative of Kyoto.
highlight
We will meet at the Ozora Square on the rooftop of the Kyoto Station Building and guide you to the following three locations.
① Nijojo Castle was where the Tokugawa shoguns, who established the last samurai government, stayed in Kyoto. Located near the Imperial Palace, where the emperor resided, visitors can see the Ninomaru Palace, the garden, and the Karamon Gate, national treasures.
② The Kinkakuji Temple is so-called because of its gold-leaf-covered temple hall. It is also known as the "Golden Pavilion" to foreign visitors. It is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural asset of the ancient capital of Kyoto.
③ Ryoanji Temple is the pagoda of Myoshinji Temple, the most famous Zen temple in Japan. Its garden is a karesansui (dry landscape garden) with 15 natural stones set on a bed of white sand, which is the essence of Zen. The garden is famous for being visited and praised by the philosopher Sartre and Queen Elizabeth. It is known worldwide as the "Zen Garden."
